5th Grade Reading Scores up 45 percent
And math
scores up 34 percent in just four months
after using Brain Gym.
"Using fall and spring NWEA scores as a
measure, I looked at the effectiveness
of Brain Gym. In the fall my class
scored 25 percent proficient in reading
and 40 percent proficient in Math.
We
started using Brain Gym in January. By
spring, the scores had had risen to 68
percent proficient in reading and 74
percent proficient in math.

Not only do test
scores go up but you'll feel more confident
because there's . . .
>
No more anxiety when, despite all your
preparation, the class math and reading
scores aren't meeting the "No Child Left Behind" standards.
> No
more frustration with those ADD kids who just
can't seem to settle down and are
distracted by the slightest thing.
> No
more panic when the all-school program for
parents is this week, and the kids still
can't remember the words to their songs.
So now you're
asking me "And just how will my anxiety,
frustration, and panic disappear?"
Anxiety,
frustration, and panic disappear after your
class does Brain Gym, a program of 26 simple
exercises that works with any learning or performance
activity.
For example, Brain Gym
• Helps lower
test anxiety
• Increases physical coordination
• Boosts self-confidence
• Improves eye-hand coordination
• Helps manage
ADD/ADHD
• Improves reading
• Increases
math skills
Sounds too good
to be true? How can one program do
everything?
Because Brain Gym
integrates all parts of the brain.
And your next
obvious question is "What on
earth does brain integration mean?"
Just imagine that
your car only fires on one cylinder. And your
stove only has one burner. The lights at your
house only come on regularly in a closet in the
basement.
What a disaster!
We need all the
cylinders in our cars to fire so we can drive to
the mall, to the beach, up to the mountains. We need all the
burners on the stove (and the microwave) to cook
Thanksgiving dinner.
And certainly we
need working lights in in our house so we don't
fall down stairs in the dark. Then the ability to switch the
lights off so we can go to sleep at night.
It's the same thing with your brain. You need all
the parts of the brain switched on and working.
And for most of us and most of our kids, this
doesn't happen often. You lose and your kids
lose. Part of
Susan's brain switches off in 3rd grade when she's trying to
read. Joshua's brain switches on the panic
button in 7th grade when he's taking a test.
Megan's brain has parts of her brain switched on
ultra-super-high gear all of the time in 1st
grade so it's impossible to settle down and
focus.
No matter what
grade or what activity, when Susan, Joshua, and
Megan use only part of their brain, learning and
test scores suffer.
With Brain
Gym, you and your kids will be able to "switch
on" or integrate all parts of the brain necessary for focus and learning.
It's that
simple. It's called "whole-brain"
learning. It's what Brain Gym's all about.
And now you can discover how to use Brain Gym
effectively for yourself and your kids . . .
without ever having to leave school, eat up
precious weekend time when you have things to do
at home, spend money traveling to a class, get a
substitute teacher or a baby sitter.
All you need is a
Telephone. I'm offering Brain Gym Basics as a six-hour,
four-session TeleChat.
Before the class starts,
you'll get the
phone number, your personal access code, and directions for
downloading more than more than 25 pages of handouts
for each session. By the end of the class
you'll have a complete Brain Gym reference book for
classroom use.
You can only
get this 97-page reference book with the Brain Gym
Basics telechat. It's NEVER sold separately!
The class begins July 8.
Continues on July 10, July 15, and July 17. Each session is 90 minutes long and starts at 6 pm
mountain time.
And
teachers, you can get
professional development
graduate credit for salary upgrade and
recertification with Brain Gym Basics.

Before I sign up, I want to
know about all the
bonuses I get with Brain
Gym Basics . . . in addition to 97 pages of handouts
I can use later as a Brain Gym resource.

Adult
Student Aces Exam
after Doing Brain Gym
Hear how Bev Day, a
grown-up student in
Littleton, Colorado, aced a big Ph.D. exam
after using some Brain Gym she learned during
the Brain Gym Basics TeleChat.
|

If you'd like to
make teaching easier and more
fun, help kids learn anything quickly and without
struggle, then this letter about Brain Gym might be
the most important letter you'll ever read.
Here's why Brain Gym can
do everything from helping KiKi with her spelling
test to boosting her brother Jason's performance in the big
football game on Saturday.
Brain Gym integrates all parts of the brain--the
back, the middle, and both sides of the front.
I don't want to bore you with brain physiology here.
But just know that in order to learn, all of the
parts of the brain have to be working together. It's
called "whole-brain learning" or "brain
integration."
And doesn't this make sense? What if your
TV only worked Thursday at 2:30 in the afternoon? Or
your radio just got two stations, and they weren't
the stations you like?
For me, it's my computer. I lose it if my monitor
goes out, or I can't get e-mail, or one of my
printers isn't printing. I want all the parts of my
computer system operating together.
Now all of us certainly use our brains. But most
of us, including our kids, don't use all the parts.
And if kids aren't using all the parts of their
brain, they struggle with learning . . . and some simply
don't learn.
For example, sometimes kids use only the back of
their brain--then they can't think rationally. Other
times, they're stuck in the middle and get so
emotional and weepy they can't do their work.
Or they're in such high gear in the front of their
brain that they can't focus on just one thing at a
time.
Discovering how to integrate all the parts of the
brain by using Brain Gym is surprisingly easy--even
preschoolers and kindergartners can do it.
And the research proves it. Studies published in the U.S., Germany, Australia,
and elsewhere have confirmed that Brain Gym produces
measurable gains in learning
skills, academic performance, and physical skills.
Dr. Paul Dennison, a reading specialist, founded
Brain Gym in the early 70s. It's been so
successful that educators in more than 90 countries teach
Brain Gym.
I've seen Brain Gym in action.
I know it works.
Brain Gym doesn't just raise test
scores and enhance learning. one teacher uses Brain
Gym to get kids to cooperate with each other.

Classmates work together after Brain Gym
Listen to Rita Theriault of Fort Kent,
Maine explain how she used Brain Gym in
a 3rd grade classroom to encourage kids
to work in groups.
|
And Brain Gym helps decrease ADHD
and other disruptive classroom behaviors as Kelly
Johnston discovered in her class.
|
From 24 disruptive
behaviors in 40 minutes to just 6 in a
morning.
"One of my kindergartners had
significant attention difficulties and
comes from a family history of bipolar
disease and ADHD. Before we started
Brain Gym, he had as many as 24
disruptive behaviors in one 40-minute
period.
After two days of Brain Gym, he was down
to 12 disruptive behaviors. After 5
weeks of Brain Gym, he had fewer than
six disruptive behaviors the entire
morning."
Kelly Johnston, kindergarten teacher,
Manitou Springs, CO |
Top Ten Benefits You'll Get with
Brain Gym Basics TeleChats:
1.
Brain Gym's a program of 26 simple movements
which target specific
movements to specific tasks. Developmental
experts and neuroscientists
have known for more than
80 years that physical movement activates the
brain and
enhances learning.
Certain Brain Gyms improve reading. Others increase
listening ability.
Two specific Brain Gyms help with calming down and
focus.
Class got you flustered? Annoyed? Impatient?
Use a
Brain Gym activity to get
yourself and your kids settled down and back on track.
You'll master all 26 movements in the Brain Gym Basics,
2.
Brain Gym's six lengthening movements integrate
the back and front parts
of the brain
These simple Brain Gym movements for procrastinators help folks
start and
finish
projects easily.
You get your report cards done efficiently with
no last-minute panic. Your
students start, finish, and turn in their book reports on
time.
3. Brain Gym's eleven midline movements integrate
the right and left frontal
lobes of your brain.
Reading skills improve. Writing is easier. Math
ability improves. In short, midline
movements improve all academic
skills.
4. Brain Gym's seven energy exercises integrate
the mid-brain with the front
brain and the body.
Energy exercises help with balance and posture,
essential to improve effective,
relaxed, and struggle-free learning and teaching.
5. Brain Gym's two deepening attitudes exercises
lower stress in the central
nervous system including the back of the brain.
Use these movements to get those ADD/ADHD kids to
focus, settle down, and
get to work instead of driving you and other kids in your room crazy.
Overwhelmed and exhausted from too much
to do? Use Deepening Attitudes
activities to
increase your energy
and focus.
6.
Brain Gym includes a
5-minute warm-up. You'll
learn how to do it in Brain Gym
Basics.
In
just 5-minutes (or less) 2-3 times a day, you and
the children you work with
can get back on task and focus on what's important at
the moment.
Works before school, before the first activity of
the school day, after recess,
in the middle of that afternoon slump, anytime you or
they need to re-focus.
You can
use this 5-minute warm-up yourself at
home before you get to school.
7.
Brain Gym also features a 5-step balance process.
We'll do a couple of
the easiest balances in
Brain Gym Basics.
Set
a goal for yourself, for an individual child, or for
your whole class. Do Brain
Gym activities while you focus on
writing and saying your goal. You'll
see your
goals accomplished faster and with ease.
8. Brain Gym can be modified for special needs.
Brain Gym is flexible enough that children who
cannot easily move about, like
those in wheel chairs, benefit. So do children who have severe learning
challenges, such as autism. You can
use
Brain Gym in residential and day-
treatment centers.
9.
Brain
Gym movements synchronize mind and body and improve
eye-hand
coordination.
Little
children who can sing the alphabet song can now
write it easily and clearly.
You can use your mind to learn the rules of the
game and then play it with
coordinated movements.
Do
Brain Gym before hitting a softball, dancing in time
with the music, shooting
hoops, even playing golf. Then
watch while sports
skills improve . . . often
immediately.
10.
Brain Gym works for all ages and with any
curriculum
Pre-schoolers increase their physical coordination,
listening ability, and other
skills they need for success in school.
High school
seniors get over test anxiety and raise their
SAT
scores to get into
college.
Montessori teachers use Brain Gym
effectively. So do teachers in "Core
Knowledge" charter schools. You
can use
Brain Gym with your curriculum
And yes, Brain Gym is so effective that you could
choose from hundreds of Brain Gym classes . . . all
over the world.
So now you're asking,
"MaryJo, why should I take your Brain Gym class?"
Never before have you been able to learn Brain Gym
at home. Now you can take Brain Gym Basics in four 90-minutes sessions just
by dialing your phone!
And get recertification and salary upgrade credit from the University of Colorado-Denver for this
teacher professional development class.
In the past, you had to attend 3-day workshops,
one-day teacher in-services, or short presentations at conferences
and teacher/parent nights. And even though Brain Gym
is taught around the world, it isn't always easy to
find a class where you live.
Obviously, these are valuable classes--if
you can get to one.
But what if you can't get there?
What if
nothing's offered in your area?
What if a 3-day
class is too expensive?
What if you just don't have
enough time?
What if you'd like to know more
about Brain Gym before investing in a full 3-day class?
Your solution is a Brain Gym Basics TeleChat, 90
minutes at a time. Fits in your budget and in your
schedule.
Now, I know you're probably skeptical. That's normal
and healthy. Let me give you
three good reasons I can back up what I claim.
Three Reasons Why You Should
be Using Brain Gym
Reason one: Time after time, teachers and others
I've taught have reported their Brain Gym successes.
Resistant readers have started learning to read.
State-required test scores are going up.
Problem-children are calming down and able to focus
on learning.
Reason two: I am writing this letter to you
because Brain Gym changed my life. I went from
a scatter-brained, always-late college professor to
a focused business person and professional workshop
leader who can
concentrate and get things done on time.
Reason three:
Since 1992 I've been teaching
Brain Gym to teachers, parents,
administrators, occupational and physical
therapists, speech pathologists, and counselors.
Even rowdy
teenagers in Guatemala and we didn't speak the same
language.
Keep reading to find the
4th reason for taking Brain Gym: The Research
proving Brain Gym works. (You might want to show
this to your principal!)
Now, you're probably wondering even more about
Brain Gym. Let me explain.
Brain Gym helps anyone (like kids and their
teachers, parents, you and me) learn anything faster and more
easily.
As I mentioned before, neuroscientists
have proven repeatedly that movement is the key to
learning. Brain Gym helps everyone Move to learn
and Learn to Move.
Some people think of Brain Gym only in terms of
improving learning. And Brain Gym certainly does
increase academic skills. However, Brain Gym
is also the quickest stress reliever I know. You can
use it everyday to help focus and stay calm.
That's what I do.
Brain Gym is so effective that many people
travel hundreds of miles to take classes. Sometimes
people even go to other countries to study Brain
Gym.
But maybe you can't afford the time or
money to take a class where you live, much less in
another city or another country. What then?
Now you can take Brain Gym Basics wherever
you live. All you need is a telephone and six
hours for Brain Gym Basics.
It starts Tuesday evening, July 8 at 6 pm
mountain time (that's 8 pm eastern, 7 pm central,
and 5 pm pacific.) The second session is Thursday evening,
July 10. Then Tuesday, July 15 and we finish
up on Thursday, July 17.
You'll learn enough to use Brain Gym immediately and get results.
You'll discover all 26 Brain Gym
movements, how to use Brain Gym with ADD/ADHD kids,
how to do the 5-minute warm-up, and simple balances
to use with goal setting.
You'll learn how to modify Brain Gym for special
needs, what to do when procrastination sets in
(yours or theirs), and how Brain Gym synchronizes
mind and body and integrates all parts of the brain.
I'll answer your questions about using Brain Gym
with any age and any curriculum.
Each evening I'll discuss a bit of Brain Gym, show
you some Brain Gym movements, talk about why and
when to use those specific movements, and help you
put together a specific plan for using Brain Gym
yourself and with your students.
Doesn't get any easier than this!
Don't take my word for it. Listen to What Other Teachers Who've Used Brain Gym say.

Now
they employed Brain Gym when they needed
it without prompting. (Using a self-help

Teacher finds effects
of Brain Gym invaluable
for concentration and relaxation
"My
class has been tested with 46.2 percent
of the children having learning
challenges and emotional disorders. My
colleague's class has only 8.7 percent
with these challenges.
Yet on
our CSAP tests, my class, which did
Brain Gym before the test, was only 1.36
percent lower than my colleague's who
didn't use Brain Gym.
The effects on concentration and
relaxation are invaluable. I can't

Social worker uses
Brain Gym
to increase student's self esteem
"I've
used Brain Gym with two students to help
them with interpersonal skills and self
esteem.
One
student got over her shyness. Another
reported, as did her teacher, that she
was was more calm and able to focus
after doing Brain Gym.
Brain
Gym has been a great tool for me, both
professionally and personally."
Gayle
Wright, school social worker,
Broomfield, CO |
The
"Wall Street Journal" named Brain Gym as an
effective non-drug intervention for ADD/ADHD. And
the CBS morning show featured
Brain Gym as a way to
lower test anxiety and
improve test scores.
These journalists and
TV reporters may not be teachers, but their
endorsements come from interviews with teachers,
kids, and even medical doctors.

Brain Gym
sounds great, MaryJo . . . but can you prove that it
works? You mentioned research. I'd like to know more
about these studies.
Yes, as I said earlier
in my letter, there's research
proving that Brain Gym works. For example . .
.
250 students
in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades at Saticoy
Elementary School in Ventura, California were
randomly assigned to classes where Brain Gym was
used or the control group.
Scores from
the Stanford 9, a standardized test measuring
reading ability, were compared. Students using Brain
Gym consistently improved their test scores twice as
much as those in the control group.

Peer-reviewed
journals have also published Brain Gym research.
-
Double-blind,
statistical analysis showed eighteen 8-year-olds
improved in reading and comprehension after
doing Brain Gym as compared to two control
groups. (Beigel, Steinbauer, and Zinke, 2002)
-
Sixty elementary
school students, classified as
learning-disabled, showed a greater improvement
in static balance than the control group who did
not use Brain Gym. (Khalsa and Stiff, 1988)
-
Statistically
significant results showed that Brain Gym
lessened computer-related eye and muscle strain.
(Spalding, 1990)

Your Professional Development Classes
Need to Meet Six Criteria
There are plenty of professional development
classes out there that just waste your time and
money. I want
to give you six criteria or elements you absolutely
want to have in choosing the right
class for you:
1. Can I get professional development
credit for salary upgrade and re-certification?
Yes. Choose a half or one full graduate credit.
Available from the
University of Colorado for Brain Gym Basics. You do not need to live in
Colorado to take advantage of this opportunity.
After you register here on our secure server for
your Brain Gym Basics TeleChat, you'll need to
register with the University of Colorado at Denver
for the credit.
It's a two-step process. You'll register here for
the classes and register through the University of
Colorado for the credit itself. Don't worry.
On-line registration is easy and I'll help you with it.
If you have questions or need help with the
registration for credit, give me a ring at 970-963-4077 or e-mail me at
mjw@mjwagner.com.
2. Does this workshop fit into my schedule
and is it reasonably priced?
Since Brain Gym Basics is offered in
90-minute sessions in the evening, it's easy to fit it into
your busy schedule. Won't interrupt your teaching
day.
And the Brain Gym Basics TeleChats are the most
reasonably priced of
all Brain Gym classes.
3. Can I use this in my classroom? Does it
work?
Brain Gym Basics isn't fluff or boring theory.
You'll be able to use
Brain Gym immediately and see
results after your first Brain Gym TeleChat on July
8.
4. Do I get written materials to help me
follow along and use later? And can I ask questions
if I don't understand something?
Yes. You'll be able to
download
Brain Gym Basics handouts from my Web
site the day of the TeleChat.
And you'll be able to
ask questions, not just for clarification but also
about individual situations. These handouts
constitute a 97-page Brain Gym resource manual that
you can't get anywhere else. It's not sold.
5. Can I review the material later?
Sometimes once around the block isn't enough for me.
As one of the bonuses, you'll receive a link to an audio of the
entire TeleChat which you can listen to any time you
choose. You can also download this audio to an MP3
player (or get a teenager to do it for you). Listen to your TeleChat anywhere.
Means you're not stuck at your computer
6. Is the instructor qualified?
I've been teaching for 40 years--from
kindergarteners to graduate students. And I've been
teaching Brain Gym since 1992 to teachers
and parents, to entire schools, even to teachers
and students in Guatemala.
With a passion for learning
and teaching, I've forged ahead with
two masters' degrees, one Ph.D.,
a certification in
Brain Gym, and 40 hours professional training in
adult and accelerated learning.
I'm a professional speaker,
trainer and past member of the National Speakers
Association. And on the adjunct faculty at the
University of Colorado-Denver, School of Education
and Human Development, Professional and Continuing
Education.
7. Do I get a Certificate of Completion to
show that I've earned 6 contact hours of
professional development credit in Brain Gym?
Absolutely. After the class, I will mail
you an official certificate of completion from the
Educational Kinesiology Foundation signed by me and
including your name, the
date, and the number of contact hours.
The Value Can't be Measured!
What are raised test scores, a calm and focused
classroom, improved reading and math skills worth to
you?
And what would you give for your own
sanity in the classroom? Less stress and fatigue? If
I were in your shoes, I'd say that's priceless!
Brain Gym classes can cost more than $500. Plus
the cost of travel and a substitute teacher if the
class isn't offered in your city.
Maybe your school or district will help with the
tuition and the substitute teacher, but unlikely
they'll fork over the money for travel.
Even a one-day Brain Gym teacher in-service can cost
as much as $1,800. Many schools don't have much money for
professional development. So chances are your school
may not get a Brain Gym in-service.
Maybe
you'll run into a one-hour Brain Gym session at a
convention or a conference. But certainly not three
hours or a full day.
And by the time everyone is seated, the
presenter is introduced, and you've filled out
an
evaluation at the end, the session is only about 45
minutes. (I know. I do these presentations. There's
never enough time. And forget about asking
questions.)
In summary, here's what
you get during the Brain Gym Basics:
All 26 Brain Gym
movements you can
