The Science Master has a teacher-parent-friendly explanation of how the brain works at  http://www.sciencemaster.com/columns/wesson/wesson_part_01.php

Books:

Rita Carter, Mapping the Mind. Berkeley: University of California Press, 1999.  My favorite brain book but not directly written for parents and teachers.

Eric Jensen, Brain-based Learning, 2nd edition. San Diego, CA: The Brain Store, 2000.  Using multiple-intelligences as a teaching strategy. Also has easy-to-understand general information about the brain and how kids learn.

Paul Dennison and Gail Dennison, Brain Gym®, Teacher’s Edition,  revised, Ventura, CA, Edu-Kinesthetics, Inc. 1994.  Shows how to do Brain Gym movements and what they’re for.  Basic Brain Gym book although a bit hard to learn Brain Gym from a book.

Jerry Teplitz, Paul Dennison, and Gail Dennison, Brain Gym for Business. Ventura, CA, Edu-Kinsesthetics, Inc. 1997 Although it’s for adults, the book is a bit easier to follow than Brain Gym, Teacher’s Edition. Is alphabetical and has an index.

Edward Hallowell, M.D., Delivered from Distraction, New York: Ballantine Books, 2005. My favorite book on ADD. Up-to-date, readable, excellent information, good what-to-do tips.
